Legal Question in Elder Law in California
Hello, My 95 year old aunt passed away on September 17th, 2010. The nursing home had sent her to the hospital because her leg was unusually black (according to the hospital) with a blood clot. she was on Medi-cal and -because the nursing home took all of her SS check except $35., and Social Security doesn't pay for the month of death, there is only a few hundred dollars left in her account, yet the nursing home expects me to pay the monthly share of costs for July of $1190.
So do I owe this? Many thanks for your expertise. Lori E

Not unless you signed a contract with the home to be liable for her bills.
Sounds like you should be looking at whether you have a case against the nursing home for neglect that resulted in your aunt's death, rather than them asking you for money.
