Legal Question in Elder Law in California

I may end up as a conservator for a good friend who has no family in this country. He has progressing dementia. Are conservators paid? If so, is there a general rule about how much? I don't think I can do this unless they are -- I have my own health problems. He does have some resources -- annuity, SS, modest home. Thank you so much for being there.

Conservators may be paid a % fee from the person's estate, assuming there is anything in the estate to pay from. No, the government does not pay you. If you are not up to doing this, don't. You'll need an attorney to do all the court filings and paperwork unless you already know how and are capable of doing it right. You'll have to work out an arrangement for pay him.
