Social Security is typically not subject to garnishment, and if the checks aren't being put automatically into a bank account, they aren't going to get their hands on them to do so. Your remedy is that, if they do garnish somehow, you can go to court with a motion to stop it; at that point the judge will determine the outcome of the dispute. When a garnishment occurs, you are provided a notice that explains what you have to do to get such a court decision.
