Legal Question in Elder Law in California
When does 'Share of Costs' begin at Nursing Home
Hello, and thanks so much for your time. My elderly aunt had a stroke last year. The nursing home says she owes monthly 'Share of Costs' from the very first day she was admitted, while she was on Medicare and before she went on Medi-cal. Is this true? Many thanks.

The SNF is incorrect. Share of cost is part of Medi-Cal. Once Medi-Cal began paying for your aunt's care she became responsible for her share of cost.
