Legal Question in Family Law in California
Appointing Separate Guardians for Two Minor Children
Question 1:I am a single mother with 2 minor children. The oldest child's father is involved as we share joint physical and legal custody. The youngest child father is absent and I have sole custody. He legally gave up his parental rights when the child was a year old.The child is now five. What are the proper procedures to name a guardian for my youngest child?I have no family who can take her.I am concerned that she will end up lost in the system if I do not appoint a guardian.(The oldest will stay with the natural father;no problematic issues involved with oldest child and father)I know who I will appoint as my youngest child's guardian. We have discussed this issue in detail.
Question 2:I have a very good job and a very nice life insurance policy.I pay extra for more coverage to help my oldest child's father and the youngest child's guardian if I were to die before the children reach legal age. What is the proper procedure to make clear that each gets exactly half of the monies?
Question 3:How do I make clear that no one is to contest the person I appoint as my youngest child's guardian?Main concern is for the youngest child.I am emphatic that the youngest child be placed with the person I choose as the guardian.

Re: Appointing Separate Guardians for Two Minor Children
This question involves estate planning. You can name the guardian for each child. The person named for your youngest child should have frequent and regular contact with the child. The division of the insurnance benefits can be accomplished through an insurance trust, or through your will. contact an attorney who prepares wills and trusts and discuss your circumstances. This will allow the attorney to present you with the options. Then you can select the best option.
