Legal Question in Family Law in California

Changing the last name of a minor

I am remarried and my daughter wants to change her last name to my married name. My question is does this get her ''father'' off the hook for child support in the future and a chance to get out of paying past child support to the sum of $18,000? We live in california and he lives in arkansas?

No, a change in name does not equate to a change of circumstances here. Meaning, the outstanding debt obligation will "survive" the name change in a court of equity and fairness. If you would like further assistance, contact us for a free consultation.
