Legal Question in Family Law in California

If I went to court 5 years ago when my son was 3 and the court decided to hyphenate his last name (his mother's name-my name), what are the chances I could go back and have them remove her name. She has since been married and no longer uses her maiden name, although she told the court she would keep her maiden name even when she got married. It has caused confusion for my son and I want to address it.

In California a name change can be achieved in a few different ways. First and probably your best course of action would be for you to go back to court and make a motion just requesting what you have stated in your question. If your ex fights your motion, just simply explain the situation to the court and emphasis the confusion your son is experiencing. The way to make the request would be to restore his name not remove her name. Emphasis the positive things you are doing not the negative things.
