Legal Question in Family Law in California

Courts & Child Custody

What do the courts take into consideration when deciding who gets custody of the children? How do they decide who gets more custody over the other parent? Such as which parent would have the kids sleep over during the week and go to the school in that area.

The court looks at how the children are doing with the current placement, which parent supports the other parent in visitation. Attendance at school is important, and doing well in school. Doing well in school means that the child is performing at or near that child's potential. Being friendly to the other parent and not speaking badly of the other parent in the presence of the child.
