Legal Question in Family Law in California

My daughters husband moved out. He said he was doing some soul searching and would pay all of her bills. He encouraged her to quit work and go back to school. He school starts in a week. It was then discovered that he had a girlfriend. Once he was found out he is now refusing to support her at all.

She has no means. How can she protect herself, get a separation and some type of support?

When she files and serves her divorce petition, she should also file a motion requesting spousal support.
