If it is a family law case (i.e. a case that originated from a divorce or paternity matter), there are no attorneys appointed. Family law is not like criminal law. If your case is a juvenile dependency case, attorneys are appointed for the parents. Since you mentioned you do not have an attorney, it sounds like it's a family law case and not the latter. If that is the case, if you want legal representation you have to hire an attorney at your own expense.

Ms. Bridgford is correct. Attorneys are not appointed in family law matters unless it is a juvenile dependency case. However, you also asked if you could acquire legal representation at your trial?. You need to hire an attorney long before you go to trial. Attorneys prepare for trial and it sounds like you have a trial date that is approaching. I suggest you start looking for a family law attorney immediately.

The answers you have been provided are correct. You do not get court appointed counsel, if that was what you are asking, but you can hire an attorney at any time in your case, provided you can find one who will take the case. The closer to trial you get, the less likely you will find an attorney who has time to get up to speed on your case in time to represent you. I handle family law cases in Solano county from my Walnut Creek office. If you would like to make an appointment to discuss your case, feel free to contact me.
