Legal Question in Family Law in California

Long Duration Alimony

I was married for 8 yrs 3 months and my x-wife got awarded a long duration marriage with alimony being $850, plus $100 in the rears...My question is: How can this be, when she claimed sicklieness as her need, and is able to work full time in Real Estate which last year she made $40,000 and I made $3,000 in the same field of Real Estate? She is a educated person holding a masters degree in Counciling Physcology, a dental asst license. She has plenty of opportunities to work, support herself, and thrive. As where I can not even meet my daily needs.

Re: Long Duration Alimony

You should be discussing this with your attorney. If you were not represented by an attorney you should consider consulting one at this time. The court would normally not order long term alimony when the spouse has the ability to work and support themselves. The evidence of her illness must have really impressed the court.
