If you were properly noticed and served then you have a duty to show up. If you fail to show up for a hearing then it proceeds to a default and a restraining order will issue against you. The restraining order shows up on your background check and during police reviews of your record if you get pulled over by the police.

For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.

As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
