Legal Question in Family Law in California
What are the rights of grandparents when the mother of the child is dying and has changed her will. My son and I have been in care of my grandson for the last 10 years since his father died. His mother has been absent in his life for most of this time. She has developed cancer and was told that she has 2 weeks to live. She moved and took my grand son away across the country. I would like to know what are my legal rights for guardianship?

We would really need a lot more detail than you provide to even begin to assess your situation. There are a lot of factors that go into a court's decision as to who should care for a child. If the mother only has two weeks to live, however, unless she has taken the child to live with other relatives who can care for him, the child is in danger and you should contact the authorities. If the child is not in danger you need to talk to an attorney and take the time to lay out all the details with him or her so you can be properly advised. If you read my responses to other questions you will see I prefer to guide people to help themselves with legal matters when they can. So when I tell you this is one to call a lawyer about, you know I'm not just pushing my or other lawyer's legal services.
