You have 30 days from the day you were served to file and serve a Response to the Petition. If you need more time, contact the other side and request an extension. Good Luck.

As Tina indicated, you have 30 days from when you were served to file a legal Response with the court, and to serve the Petitioner's attorney by mail with the Response. As a party, you cannot personally mail the Response. It has to be someone else over the age of 18. If you are unable to do so, within the 30 days, you will need to contact the other side and request an extension. It is suggested that you retain counsel.

30 days from the date you were personally served. If you were served via substituted service, then you have 40 days from the date that the summons and petition were mailed.
