Legal Question in Family Law in California
I am considering going to see a therapist about the depression I have been suffering from since my divorce. It seems to be getting a little heavier over time and I want to try and work it out. The only thing that stops me is my current custody. I know if my ex found out that I was seeing a therapists for depression she may try and use it in court to get full custody out of spite. I currently share custody of my son and have had no record of depression in the past.
I live in California and I am wondering if it would be best to try and tackle this without seeking professional help to keep her from having any kind of weapon to try and take away my portion of the custody? Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with depression. Please note that the California family law courts will not penalize you for the fact that you were struggling with a medical condition. If you seek and receive proper treatment for your depression, your ex cannot use this situation to undermine your child custody relationship. Please seek the help that you need.
