Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

Fmla

I work for a school district in Alameda County and have asked to use my sick leave to take care of my friend who needs 24 hr care. She has lived with me for 3.5 yrs. My boss says this does not qualify under FMLA and since I am not the one who is sick, I can't use my sick leave. Is this correct?

Re: Fmla

If you are registered as domestic partners, you would be entitled to CFRA leave under CA law, which is similar to FMLA leave under federal law -- and would be entitled to care for your partner.
