Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

non family member qualifications

Does the 'fmla' only apply to immediate family members? My girlfriend and I have been living together for 2 years. She has had a major accident and will soon be released from the hospital but she will require around the clock care for up 2 to 4 weeks. I will have to take time off work to care for her but I have no sick time nor vacation time left for the year. Do I qualify for the 'fmla' and if not, are there other state programs that I use?

thank you.

Re: non family member qualifications

No, you do not qualify. FMLA specifically applies to providing care for spouses, parents and children. It does not include girlfriends, even though you live together.
