Legal Question in Medical Leave in California
Power of Attorney
How do I get a power of attorney for me, the daugther, for my mother who has alzheimers. My father just passed away and I will be the person responsible for all my mother's needs.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. You won't be able to get power of attorney for your mother because she is probably not competent to give her knowing assent. However, you can petition the court in the county in which she resides to be appointed her conservator. There are certain duties that go along with that, however. These include reporting to the court periodically regarding her condition and your handling of her financial affairs. I am sure that there are attorneys in your area who handle conservatorships.
Re: Power of Attorney
If the mother is not now 'competent' to conduct legal business, you DON'T get a power of attorney, it's too late for her to sign one. Now you'll have to go to court for a conservatorship. Consult with local counsel doing elder law.
