Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

We live in CA and would like to know where to find a copy of the law that give an employee the right to take time off for school events.

Who told you there was such 'right'? Various laws do give rights to time off for family emergency health care, voting, jury duty, and other important purposes. 'School events' are not part of the list society thinks important enough to force employers to provide leave. See if you can work out a time-shifting or comp time schedule with the employer to avoid the risk of discipline if you take the time off.

Take a look at California Labor Code, section 230.8, which requires employers of 25 or more employees to allow custodial parents to take off, up to 40 hours, but no more than 8 hours a month, to participate in their child's school activities, upon reasonable notice to the employer.
