Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

ABA Accredidation / Breach of Contract

Hello,

Until last week I was registered as a student at WSU College of Law. Prior to entering, I was assured that students at provisionally accredited schools were entiteled to full ABA status, including the ability to sit the bar in all 50 states. Last week, students were notified that the ABA decided not to extend provisional accredidation. The school was aware of the ABA's position prior to my entrance, but purposely withheld information. However, I relied on their information to relocate from Colorado to California and have incurred over $20K in debt. Long story short, WSU has a $2 Billion parent. This played heavily on the ABA's decision to deny approval. I am hoping to recover all or a part of my sunk costs + damages. I'm 38 years old and placed a great deal of faith in the school's assurance that I was able to sit the bar in all 50 states, and that is simply not true. I believe that a great number of students would be willing to participate in an action to obtain their money back. Please keep this in confidence as I am hoping to reapply to lawschools and do not want to appear a thorn in the side of anyone. Thanks!

When you say "I was assured" do you mean in writing or orally?

You will have to be able to demonstrate that the school actually knew of the withdrawal of approval, and their improper withholding of that information, before the start of the school year and their acceptance/approval of students for admission. You could contact the school and the ABA for verification of those dates. IF so, then a arguable claim might be made about misrepresentation.
