When you put them on the deed, meaning on 'title to the house', they became an owner, with all the rights of owners to the equity and profits. Now, if you want them off title, you either negotiate a 'deal' between yourselves and prepare another deed to correct the situation, or you could have an attorney or other 3rd party try to do that for you, or in worst case scenario you will have to file suit to seek whatever remedy you want. The deed is evidence that you meant to give a half interest in the property to them. Unless they agree and admit to a different deal, you'll have a problem proving that your intention was anything other than that 1/2 interest. If you're serious about getting legal help in this, feel free to contact me to discuss your rights, remedies, and the costs of doing so.
