Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

A boyfriend and his girlfriend both sign a one year lease on an apartment. Of course they want to break up after 5 months in the apartment. Can they get out of the lease?

No. The lease, if in standard form, is a binding contract. The couple's love life makes no difference.

They can both be sued by the lessor if they do.
