What is our civil liability for our 23 year old son who is living at home. he is going to school, has no current job and most all financial support comes from us, his parents.

Other than your concern about his not being able to get a job in this sour economy, it's not clear what you're worried about. Presumably you have homeowner's, renter's, and auto insurance. Reading your policies, or a call to your insurance carrier, will reveal whether he is covered.
I agree with Michael. The best place to start is to make sure that he is covered on all applicable insurance policies, such as your auto and home insurance. If there are specific issues you are concerned about, they should be discussed confidentially with an attorney.

Let him drive your vehicles, you're responsible for any damage he causes. Other than that, he is an adult responsible for his own actions as long as they are outside your house, off your property.
