how do you handle someone using your company's name in a different state?

Well, IF you have properly protected the name in that state by trademark or other registered means, then you have counsel send a 'cease and desist' demand, followed up with lawsuit if warranted. Feel free to contact me if you have such grounds to proceed. If not, then consider trying to protect what is left of your rights by proper filings and registrations.
