Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California
loss of confidential Identity information
My husbands ex-wife and my name are very similar. She had a medical appointment and the admissions person checked her in under my name - she did not follow procedure by using SS number. My information was then co-mingled with hers and she was sent my social security number, work place, work phone, DOB, etc.
She has the ability to use this information for any purpose which puts me at risk. She has a violent history and is an alcohlic.
Is there any recourse for this negligent act?

IF the info is misused by her, then you probably would have the legal grounds and the damage necessary for an action against the doctor's office.
Re: loss of confidential Identity information
I would most definitely try and discover what government entity to complain to... I might try the State Medical Licensing Board in Sacramento...
...but, unless you can prove that the woman who obtained your information has done something bad with it, you may win a case in theory... but not obtain any damages.
