Private party used car purchase - may be duplicate post

I just purchased a car from a private party a week ago. She said that she put $1300 work into it. She also told me that the last thing it needed was just a tune up. The next morning, the car is having engine problems that it did not display during the test drive. I called and asked about this and she told me the tune up will rectify these problems.

She included a blue book printout with the contract stating that the car was in good condition - meaning no major mechanical defects. I took the car in for a tune up and the mechanic tells me that it needs about $2000 worth of work done.

Can I return the car and get my money back?

You can try, but such sales are normally "as is" and "buyer beware". IF the buyer did not make it as is, and gave some warranty of condition, then you could try small claims court.
