Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I am in pro per. Can I still have an attorney appear with me, for example a service like "Attorneys on Demand", just to assist?

It is possible you can find an attorney willing to do "limited scope representation" (look it up). I have no information on "Attorneys on Demand," whatever that is.

If you want to pay someone to 'specially appear' with you for one hearing only, sure, if you can find some young hungry attorney willing to do so. But, you're also going to have to pay them for their time in properly reviewing and preparing for the hearing, not just attending it 'blind' and looking foolish.

Attorneys on Demand is a service for attorneys, commonly called "special appearance" attorneys, which is a misnomer, since they appear at OSC's and Case Management Conferences. They do not appear on behalf of clients, but are rather associate counsel who appear in court when an attorney has a calendar conflict and has to be two places at the same time. (Which is common for a lot of personal injury attorneys, who take in a large volume of contingency fee cases.)

As Mr. Stone pointed out, you may be able to have an attorney appear for you on a limited basis, through what is known as limited scope representation. I've never been sold on the idea, but the State Bar pitches it at all the Legal Education seminars that I attend.
