Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I received a Summons from a credit card company. I ahve been working with all my creditor and they put me on a hardship program. But this company is asking for a monthly payment I can't afford at this time. I do want to pay back my debt. How do I respond to this summons.

By contacting the attorney on the case and making a reasonable payment offer, negotiate down the amount, etc. There is no magic wand here, just persuasion.
