Because you are 21 or older, it will take a long time for you to become a permanent resident. It depends on your country of birth.

You didn't explain how did your father become a permanent resident, and how did you come to USA (on a visa?).

Who is the lady who is assisting with your immigration paperwork? Is she an immigration attorney or unlicensed and unqualified "notario"?

I agree with the answer from Luba. If you came to the U.S. with your dad as a permanent resident, why haven't you also become a citizen? If you are unmarried, you are a 2B family-based candidate for permanent residency. Currently for many beneficiaries, the current "wait" time is 8 years.
