Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Asylum for a citizen of Nepal

Hi,

My friend is from Nepal and she came into US as a student 2.5 years back. She is currently working on her OPT (still in F1 status).

I wanted to ask you if she can apply for asylum in the US citing reason as the dismissal of democracy in Nepal and the continuous violence ?

Also, is it a good idea to ask a lawyer to represent her in her case ?

Thanks.

Re: Asylum for a citizen of Nepal

Of course she can but...she needs to overcome statuory bar..because asylum must be filed within a year of date of entry. To overcome this statutory bar..she need to show changed country condition...or other changed circumsatances!!
