Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

I was legal in US but without working permit and I did some construction work. The person that I did work for never paid me and it is not willing to pay because i had no working permit. Is there any law or possibility for me to get the money for my work ?

This is really an employment law related question. I would check with the laws of the County where you did the work. You should check also with representatives of day laborers association, if there is one in your city.

Yes, I agree that this is an employment law question. If you did construction work for a private individual, under agreement that you will do certain work and he will pay you $$, there could be also issues of the contract law.

From the point of view of the US federal immigration law, you are not allowed to work in USA without authorization.

Hello:

While you did not have authorization to work, the employer did not have authorization to hire you and was violating provisions of the law. You might want to consider reporting him. Keep in mind you do place yourself at some risk by doing that.
