Fincancial Medical bill

Medical Insurance went bankrupt & hospital is charging for med. care provided in 2001. Friend is presently disabled. Pleas advise.

If this is through a PPO or other "group" where your friend only makes a co-payment because the hospital accepts the amount the insurer pays, then your friend probably does not owe the hospital. The hospital and the insurer have a separate contract governing their relationship.

If your friend has "true" insurance, which does

not care who the health provider is, and pays 80% while the insured pays 20% (the old form of true insurance), then the hospital may be correct.

More details are needed to properly answer this question, since the reason this hospital was selected to provide services is now important. In other words, this is a three party matter.
