Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My 69 year old father has worked at Walmart for 8 years. He has bad knees and with a note from his doctor they have allowed him to sit periodically while standing at the door as a greeter. Today they told him that he can't sit down anymore. Does he have any recourse?
