Legal Question in Employment Law in California

attorney withdrawal

My attorney was allowed to remove himself as attorney of record 13 days before he must respond to a Motion for Summary Judgment and because of possible sanctions, I have been unable to replace him.

What should I do?

Re: attorney withdrawal

I'd have an attorney on your behalf communicate with the court and opposing counsel to explain the circumstances. That person should ask that the hearing be continued so that you can find a lawyer to get up to speed on your case and respond. Do not delay!

Beg the court for time to get new counsel, and start preparing the Opposition to the motion yourself if you can't find an attorney. You might be able to pay an attorney to prepare the paperwork for you to file yourself, but it is likely to be costly and paid by the hour. Feel free to contact me in interested in doing so.
