Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My boss requires us to clock in early in order for us to be at our stations for our scheduled shift. He also says we cannot leave our stations until the end of our scheduled shift. T shut down and walk up to the time clock takes about 3-5 minutes. To get our things and open the counter takes about the same. He says we do not get paid for any of the time between clocking in and getting to our stations, or when we shut down. These minutes add up. Is this legal? (FYI, I work for a non-unionized airline

Apparently you do not understand that you get paid to actually 'work'. You obviously have to spend some time commuting to/from work, some time parking and walking in/out, some time getting to/from your work station. None of that is paid time. You have to punch in early enough to be able to get to your station on time and be 'working', or you are 'late'. You also are paid to be 'working' until the end of your shift, after which you reverse the commute process and go home. How long it takes you to come and go outside 'working' time is up to you. This is not a secret rule.
