Legal Question in Employment Law in California

boss's girlfriend's husband.

My boss hired his girlfriend's husband to be my assistant at twice the salary of my other assistant. He's completely unqualified for the job, but that doesn't matter so much since he hasn't come to work yet (even though he's being paid). Needless to say, I was not consulted about this hire nor was I told what his job duties were to be.

I'm concerned that I can be held accountable for allowing someone to be paid who doesn't do any work. On the other hand, I'm afraid that I will be fired if I blow the whistle. I work for a private firm.

What should I do?

You may want to document the failure to perform and seek guidance from your boss as to how you can help this new employee become a valuable company employee.

Unless there is something illegal about this, simply do your job and keep the office politics from getting you fired.
