Legal Question in Employment Law in California

If a company answers back that you didn't get a chance to interviewe for a job because you where overqualified, is that legal?

It is legal and it is happening quite a bit right now. There are many people overqualified for the jobs they are seeking. Illegal responses are based on protected class reasons. Being over qualified is not a protected class and therefore the company can decide to use it as a reason.

Legal? Companies are completely free to interview, hire and fire employees at their sole discretion. You have no 'rights' to an interview or job. The only thing 'illegal' would be if you could prove their actions violated the civil rights laws, regarding race, age, sex, ethnic, religion..
