Legal Question in Employment Law in California

can my company dramatically change my job description if they feel like it?

I was hired to work a sales job and I'm being asked, along with my entire group, to begin manning an inbound line and field customer service inquiries. Do I have any recourse in California? I my mind these two things are distinctly different. This is not what I was hired to do and I'm so pissed about it I don't think I can fulfill the (new) requirements of my job.

Then don't. You can stay or quit, but the employer makes the rules you have to follow.

Unless you are a salaried outside salesperson, your employer can change your job as they see fit. If you are being paid the same for different work, it is up to you to decide whether or not to stay on.
