Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Company moving.

The company I am working for is moving from Southern Cal to Northern Cal. They said I have a position with them if I move. Since I am not able to move I was told I would have to quit and there would be no unemployment insurance paid to me. Is this correct? I was also told I would not be fired. Wouldn't they have to lay me off? Three co-workers have filed for unemployment and were denied and have decided to move up north now with the company. This is not an option for me since I have a mortgage and my family does not want to move. How do they get me off of there books? I do not want to sign any paperwork that says I quit. I have been there for 3 years and drive class A for them.

Re: Company moving.

File your unemployment claim and make clear to the Dept that your job in SoCAL was terminated and that you did not quit, but were told that was what the company was going to say to defeat your benefits. You should be entitled to benefits, despite what you've been told. You were right not to sign a 'quit' statement.
