Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I have a contract from my employer that says I have to give them 1 months notice. I am in the state of California. It is my understanding that California is an at will state and that this contract is non binding. Is this correct?

It depends on whether you are an at-will employee or an employee with a written contract for a specified term of employment. If you have a valid contract, you may have to act according to the terms. You may want to have an employment law attorney read the contract and then advise. The cost would be approx. $300.00 or less.

They can't stop you from immediately leaving, but your contract might mean you lose commissions or severance or something like that., or that you may owe repayment of some specified amount of moving expenses, advances, etc. Read your contract.
