Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I was contracted to work for small company to do some cataloging for a school district in Texas. I finished the job the first of July. I still have not gotten paid (it should be approximately $1K) from the outsourcing company which is located in Texas. The owner has said that she has sent four different checks to my new address (I moved to California in April.) They have given me excuses that they were robbed, they were in the hospital with their mother, the list goes on and on. I believe they will never pay me. Do I have any recourse?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Of course. If the company is in CA, or if you worked in CA, bring a suit or a claim with the Labor Commissioner in CA for unpaid comp, penalties and interest. If you win, you're entitled to attorney fees. If you were in TX for a TX company, you'll have to sue there. Feel free to contact me if the case is in SoCal.
