Legal Question in Employment Law in California

When I was on Disability, my company overpaid me approx 19.00 per day for over 500 days. I was not aware of this overpayment. They now say I owe them over 10000.00. I live within my means and would never have spent this money if I knew it was an over payment. Do I have to pay it back
