can an employer fire an employee for harassing someone via email on their computer?

California is an "at will" state so an employer does not have to state or have a reason for firing someone unless they have a contract stating the opposite. While the harassing activity may have occurred off work, it will effect the atmosphere at work and the termination is reasonable

Of course. And if it was done on company time or equipment, can do it for cause or 'misconduct' and deprive you of unemployment benefits.
