Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My employer (psychologist) asked me to sign a non compete as his psych assistant- but I thought non compete contracts were not enforceable in California?

You are right, they're not. Tell him to read California Business and Professions Code, section 16600.

By and large, they are not. However, you are always obligated to maintain confidentiality of his office, whether you work for a competitor or not.
