Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My employer had everyone submit a resume with our job description and someone will be coming in to interview us about our position they did this a few years ago and people we're let go, we got a new employee handbook and today they want an updated information sheet I understand them wanting my information but why should I provide them with the other information they are requesting they want dependent name, age, sex, dob and my husbands name occupation employer, this information has never been provided to them, I asked why is the owner requesting this and all I'm told is because he can, is he allowed to have my family's personal information?

Welcome to 'Big Brother' and the ObamaCare welfare state. Some or all of that info requested is pursuant to law, IRS enforcement, insurance regulations, Homeland Security, etc....

You always have the right to seek other work and quit, and the employer has the right to terminate you 'at will'. If that happens to you, it would have to be determined if your refusal to provide specific info fell within a statutory protection before you could think about suing. If you do get fired, try to get them to put the specific reasons in a termination notice. They don't have to though.
