Legal Question in Employment Law in California
My employer has threatened me, by a document in writing with his signature, with dismissal for "job abandonment" if I avoid exposure to toxins in my place of employment that my doctor agrees is the reason he placed me on Total Temporary Disability.
If I leave I'll end without a job and a bad reference once disability is over.

You may have causes of action for disability discrimination and/or wrongful termination in violation of public policy. I would advise you to speak with employment attorneys in your area from CELA.org (California Employment Lawyers Association).
Best of luck!

Exposure and damage from toxic materials is the basis of a Workman's Comp claim that you should start. Employer failure to accommodate a legitimate disability, or retaliation against you, is grounds for a lawsuit. If you are serious about pursuing this, feel free to contact me. I've been doing discrimination cases for over 20 years for employees.
It seems that you have a valid worker's compensation claim for exposure to toxics. Feel free to call us at 213.388.7070 for a free consultation.
