Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Employment agreement

Background:

- start working for this company on April 2008 with a salary of $50k, promised to raise salary on April 2009 but recently renegotiated & I agreed to raise salary on January 2010 to $85k.

- In the meantime, company will sponsor GC application and pay most of the fees involved.

- Concerned that company will let me go a few months after salary raise on January 2010. I would like the owner to sign a simple contract with me including a clause that says if the company fire me just months after increasing my salary, I would be entitled to a compensation of $40k.

- Question: is it possible to create a legal binding agreement that don't look too formal for owner to sign? (I don't want the owner to feel that I don't trust him)

Any advice is greatly appreciated and I will contact an attorney to have the contract done asap.

Re: Employment agreement

You either do it right, or don't do it at all with an "agreement that don't look too formal". Unless you're some stellar rising star, it isn't likely the company will agree anyway. IF you can get them to agree in principle, then pay to have the agreement done right. Contact me if you want that done.
