Legal Question in Employment Law in California

outside employment restrictions

I work as a pilot instructor at a well-known company. They put out a memo that states ''no full-time employee shall engage in outside emplyment of an aviation related nature without written authorization form the VP of Ops'' It goes on to state that it will be up to the center managers to decide if the emplyee will be allowed to do this or not.

My pilot and instructor licenses are my own -- they did not pay for them. Can they legally keep me from flying or teaching outside of the company?

Re: outside employment restrictions

They certainly can, as long as they pay your FULL TIME salary for your dedicated services to them.
