how to fight back when an employer is trying to fire a person even though a year back a FMLA was presented to and told "no worries I am sure we can work things out" Letter of reprimand has been issued because of this.

"fight back"? If you have valid grounds for a 'retaliation' claim under the discrimination laws, then you could file that suit. You could hire an attorney to present your claim to the employer before filing suit, and try to 'work out' something acceptable to you and the company.
