Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I am in final stage of a job negotiation. I don't mind a criminal background check, but is it legal to request a personal credit check? The position is for a office manager.

It is only legal for them to conduct a credit check if you authorize them to do so. But if you refuse to authorize a credit check, they can decline to offer you the job. If you are not hired because of the credit information obtained, the employer must tell you that is the reason.

'Legal' to request, yes. No check without consent. But, unless you provide them what they ask, you won't get the job. The choice is yours.
